The mintmark is centered high above the tip of the fraction bar, and the vertical shield lines pass through all of the horizontal lines.  The '43-D Quarter Eagle is one of the best struck of the various Dahlonega issues of this denomination, and as such it is one of the more popular issues with type collectors.  However, in terms of absolute rarity, there are very pieces available with an estimated 60-65 examples believed know in the various AU grades.  Winter estimates that only 2-3 Uncirculated coins are extant although we believe the number to be somewhat higher. 

This is the most common of the three small mintmark die pairings for the issue and can be distinguished by a die crack that passes through the F in OF and into the field.  The bright green-gold surfaces are very well struck throughout.  A minimally marked specimen with no singularly mentionable identifiers  705E227
