Tied with the Hudson as having the lowest mintage among post-1928 commemoratives, true Gems are very elusive of this issue, primarily because of the large, open areas on each side. This piece is as free from most abrasions and the surfaces are satiny and essentially untoned throughout. This piece is quite a radical departure from the nicked, gray, and dull examples usually encountered.  The cow's head is a curious pun on the name of Spanish expedition leader Cabeza de Vaca.
