highlights of some of my friends road reports from Baltimore show.
Charles Morgan "For CoinWeek ….
The Whitman Coin & Collectibles Baltimore Expo officially kicked off today. The show runs through Saturday, June 29, and features more than 280 dealers from the Mid-Atlantic region as well as numerous national ones. Combined, these dealers have brought millions of dollars worth of rare coins, modern coinage, bullion items and numismatic ephemera.
But speaking of absent vendors, the number of vendors on the bourse floor is about 25% smaller than it was when we were here in March. That being said, floor traffic has been steady to brisk this morning, and the dealers I’ve talked to are upbeat heading into the show."
Here is John Agre's thoughts "Now back home in New England I’ve had some time to digest the events of the last few days and take stock of exactly what we sold, bought, traded, considered, passed on, bid on, won, lost, etc.
Allowing me to now say with certainty that this was the best and busiest summer Baltimore show I have personally attended in years, with business being done literally from the moment I arrived on Thursday morning right up until we left late Saturday afternoon."
Of Course...Laura Sperber Legend Numismatics ..."We just can't help ourselves as dealers when it comes to attending shows. We all moan about the summer Baltimore and June Long Beach shows, yet most of us (including Legend) can't seem to quit going. These shows have little positive effect on the market when they are not 100% attended. Both shows are well run-but they never generate any real sales or market momentum in the early summer. We still would lobby to have these shows deleted. In fact, it looked like the majority of West Coast dealers did NOT attend this time. And we know of several major dealers who were planning on leaving early."
