The Type One design was only issued in 1916 and 1917, being modified by Hermon MacNeil in the latter year after the designer made formal objections to the Mint's rendering of his models. Characteristically bold detail and uncommonly vibrant luster deliver exceptional eye appeal on this Superb Gem. The surfaces are completely untoned and radiant, with no bothersome abrasions. This issue is often heralded for its reliable quality and availability, which is true in most cases, but pieces this fine are seldom encountered.
