November 11, 2015 @ 5:41 PM

The United Mint reported to us that it has sold almost 92 percent of the weekly allocation of 1,107,500 American Eagle 1-ounce silver bullion coins on the day they were made available, Nov. 9.

Sales Nov. 9 of 1,016,500 coins bring the calender year total to 41,938,500 coins. The Mint established its calendar-year sales record in 2014 with 44,006,000 coins recorded sold.

The U.S. Mint has been averaging monthly sales in 2015 of nearly 4 million of the coins, restricted only by the number of planchets the bureau can secure for striking them. The 2015 American Eagle silver bullion coins are all struck at the nearby West Point Mint, but of course these ASE do not have the the facility's W Mint mark.

Baltimore Coin Show Report Whitman Fall Show 2015

November 8, 2015 @ 8:26 PM

However due to combo of precious metals dropping, economy, and some great auctions recently it seems that sales for many were just not up to what was expected.  Now several dealers have their own agenda's for posting "best show ever" and some dealers did have solid good shows because ...

NY City auction guest commentary

November 1, 2015 @ 1:22 PM

A quartet of twenty-five cent pieces took center stage as Heritage presented Part Four of the Eugene H. Gardner Collection in New York, October 28. This final section of the collection, devoted to Gene Gardner's duplicates, upgrades, and specialty pieces that were not part of his core sets, raised nearly $5.9 million overall. All prices include a 17.5% Buyer's Premium. Two highly-prized early Carson City quarters vied for top honors in this auction. A 1871-CC quarter, at AU55 PCGS the sole finest non-Mint State example, and the third or fourth finest of the date overall, sold for $79,312.50. Amazingly, one of the finer coins was sold in one of the earlier sessions of the Gardner collection! A second CC mint rarity, the 1873-CC with ...
