Sorry but chasing highest grade is not worth it....

So recently I received an offer from a "Top/Well Known" dealer (the names have been changed to protect the innocent) for a 1976-D $1 Type 1 Ike Dollar... this dealer said heck its tied for finest and only $9,500 and it retails for $11,500....

This is where you as the buyer need to sort the wheat from the chaff....Listen to me, I have nothing against President Eisenhower...    I Like Ike   what I don't like is that this is truly a common coin... ok I get Type 1 is a little better than Type 2 and I get the fact that its in a PCGS holder... but here is the rub... its not finest known that honor belongs to a MS67+ there are actually 15 coins certified MS67 grade...

but that's not the point... go buy a wonderful 66+ if you must have this coin... there are 29 graded examples an you can buy one for around $600 dollars... If I took the 66+ and the 67 and put them together 9 out of 10 people could not tell the difference.

My rant, you can have great coins at a fraction of the price if you dont get hung up over finest known....on a common coin the case is even stronger... make it a great day and Ike said it best....

Peace and justice are two sides of the same coin.

Dwight D. Eisenhower
